# Connect Grok

> Add Partnero to Grok as a custom MCP connector and manage your affiliate or referral program from a Grok conversation.

Grok can manage your Partnero program through Partnero's [MCP server](/guides/mcp-server). Partnero isn't in xAI's
built-in connector catalog, so you add it yourself as a custom connector — all it takes is a URL and a sign-in.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Copy the MCP URL">
    In [Partnero](https://app.partnero.com), go to **Integration** → **MCP** and copy the server URL:

    ```
    https://api.partnero.com/mcp
    ```
  </Step>

  <Step title="Add it as a custom connector">
    Go to [grok.com/connectors](https://grok.com/connectors), select **New Connector**, choose **Custom**, and
    paste the URL.

    <Note>
      On Grok Business and Enterprise, a team admin has to provision the connector before anyone in the organization
      can use it. Admins do this at [console.x.ai](https://console.x.ai) under **Grok Business** → **Connectors** →
      **Add Connector** → **Other**, which requires Team Read-Write permissions.
    </Note>
  </Step>

  <Step title="Authenticate and choose a program">
    Grok prompts for whatever the server requires. Partnero uses OAuth: sign in, choose the program Grok should
    manage, and approve the request.

    If your workspace asks for a token instead of opening a sign-in page, switch Authentication to **API key** on
    the **Integration** → **MCP** page and paste that key into Grok.

    <Note>
      A grant covers one program. To let Grok work on a second program, add the connector again and choose that
      program at the consent screen.
    </Note>
  </Step>
</Steps>

Grok discovers Partnero's tools from the server, so they become available in conversations alongside its built-in
connectors. Nothing else needs configuring.

## What you can ask

Grok picks the right tools on its own, so describe what you want rather than naming endpoints:

* "Who are my top 10 partners by revenue?"
* "Find the partner called Sarah"
* "Who referred the customer [ana@example.com](mailto:ana@example.com)?"
* "Record a 120 sale for customer cust\_123"
* "What's our referral cookie lifetime?"

The [MCP server guide](/guides/mcp-server#example-prompts) has the full set of examples, grouped by what they do.

## Troubleshooting

<AccordionGroup>
  <Accordion title="The connector won't add">
    * Check the URL is exactly `https://api.partnero.com/mcp`
    * On Business and Enterprise plans, confirm an admin has provisioned the connector in the cloud console
    * Grok requires a publicly reachable server, so a tunnelled or local URL won't work
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="401 Unauthorized">
    * On an OAuth connection, check the app still appears under **Integration** → **MCP** → **Connected apps**. If
      it was disconnected, remove the connector in Grok and add it again to rerun the sign-in
    * On an API key connection, regenerate the key from **Integration** → **MCP** and paste the new one
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="A tool says it isn't available for this program type">
    Some tools only apply to certain program types — leads and transactions belong to affiliate programs, rewards to
    newsletter and refer-a-friend programs. Add the connector again and authorize the program that owns the data
    you're asking about.
  </Accordion>
