# Send program emails with SendGrid

> Use your own SendGrid account, including EU data residency, to send your program's emails

SendGrid is one of the email gateways Partnero can send your program's emails through. Connecting your SendGrid
account lets those emails go out from your own address, such as *[partners@yourdomain.com](mailto:partners@yourdomain.com)*, instead of the
default *@partnero.email* address. Both Global and EU data residency accounts are supported.

> [!NOTE]
>
> This is about **sending email**, not syncing data. SendGrid does not receive your partners or customers. For
> that, see [Mailchimp](https://docs.partnero.com/integrations/mailchimp.md) or [MailerLite](https://docs.partnero.com/integrations/mailerlite.md).

## Before you start

You need:

* A SendGrid **API key** with the **Mail Send** permission. A restricted key with only Mail Send is enough. See
  [SendGrid's guide to API keys](https://www.twilio.com/docs/sendgrid/ui/account-and-settings/api-keys).
* A **From email address** that is a verified Single Sender, or that belongs to an authenticated domain, in
  SendGrid.
* To know your account's **data residency**: Global, or EU if your account (or subuser) was set up to store data
  in the EU.

## Connect SendGrid

1. In your program, go to **Emails** under Affiliate.
2. On the **Settings** tab, click **Setup** next to **Use SendGrid**.
3. Paste your **SendGrid API key**.
4. Enter your **From email address**.
5. Under **Data residency**, choose **Global (api.sendgrid.com)** or **EU (api.eu.sendgrid.com)**.
6. Click **Connect**.

Partnero checks that the key has the Mail Send permission and can send from the selected data residency. Once
connected, SendGrid shows a green checkmark and the address it sends as, for example
**Sending as [partners@yourdomain.com](mailto:partners@yourdomain.com)**.

## Your sender email

SendGrid is connected with one From address, so connecting it also sets your program's **Sender email** to that
address. You don't need to pick it yourself. The address can't be edited under **Sender email**. To send from a
different address, disconnect SendGrid and connect it again with the new From address.

> [!TIP]
>
> Click **Send test email** below the email gateways to confirm everything works before your partners start
> receiving emails.

## Disconnecting

Click **Disconnect** next to **Use SendGrid** and confirm. Your API key, From address and data residency are
removed from Partnero.

If SendGrid was sending your program's emails, your sender email switches back to Partnero's default
*@partnero.email* address, so your emails keep going out.

## Troubleshooting

> [accordion] This SendGrid account cannot send email from the selected data residency
>
> Your account is in the other region. Choose the other **Data residency** option and click **Connect** again.
> Most accounts are Global. EU is only for accounts or subusers set up for EU data residency.

> [accordion] Your API key is not valid
>
> Make sure you copied the full key (it starts with `SG.` and is only shown once in SendGrid) and that it has
> the **Mail Send** permission. Also check that the From email address is a valid email address.

> [accordion] Connecting works but test emails fail
>
> SendGrid only checks the From address when an email is sent. Verify the address as a Single Sender, or
> authenticate its domain, in SendGrid. Then send a test email again.
