# Managing and editing campaigns

Once a campaign exists, the campaigns list and the campaign overview are where you watch it, change it and switch it off. This article covers both, and what happens to partners already in a sequence when you change it underneath them.

***

### The campaigns list

**Program → Campaigns** lists everything you have built.

| Column | What it shows |
| - | - |
| Name | Opens the campaign overview |
| Entry | The trigger that puts partners in |
| Steps | How many steps the sequence has |
| Partners | How many are part way through, and how many have ever entered |
| Status | Active or Disabled |

The **Actions** menu on each row gives you View, Edit, Enable or Disable, and Delete.

### The campaign overview

Clicking a campaign name opens its overview. The card at the top carries the campaign's name, the switch that starts and stops it, and an **Actions** menu for editing and deleting. Under those are the four facts about how it runs: its entry trigger, its re-entry policy, its exit rules, and when a partner last entered.

Five numbers summarise what the campaign has done:

| Number | Meaning |
| - | - |
| Triggered | How many enrollments the campaign has ever created |
| In progress | Partners part way through right now |
| Completed | Partners who reached the end |
| Left early | Partners who left before the end, whatever the reason |
| Emails sent | Emails the campaign has sent across all steps |

Because a partner can re-enter, *Triggered* counts enrollments rather than people. The partner count beneath it tells you how many individuals that represents.

*Left early* covers all three ways out: matching an exit condition, reaching a condition step with an empty No lane without matching it, and the partner being deleted. The numbers do not always add up to *Triggered*, because an enrollment can also fail, and failures are counted in *Triggered* without having a tile of their own.

### Reading the step table

Below the numbers, every step is listed with four counts:

| Column | Meaning |
| - | - |
| Ran | The step completed for that many partners |
| Here now | Partners sitting on that step at this moment, usually waiting |
| Skipped | The step could not run, so the partner moved on to the next one |
| Failed | The step errored, and the partner stopped there |

Steps inside a branch are indented and labelled **Yes** or **No**, matching the builder's layout.

A few skipped sends is normal — partners with no email address, for instance. A number that keeps climbing usually means a deleted email template. **Failed** is the one to watch: those partners did not continue, and will not without help.

**Recent activity** underneath lists the campaign's last 25 step runs, partner by partner, with the step, the outcome and when it ran. It is the fastest way to confirm a campaign is doing what you expect after switching it on.

### Editing a campaign

Use **Edit** from the overview or the list. You can change anything: the name, the trigger, the steps, the branches, the exit conditions and the re-entry policy.

Editing a live campaign is allowed, and partners already in it keep their place. A few specifics are worth knowing:

* **Adding a step** in front of where somebody is sitting does not pull them backwards. They continue from where they are.
* **Deleting a step** somebody is parked on moves them to the next surviving step rather than stranding them.
* **Changing the entry trigger** does not re-evaluate anybody already enrolled. It only affects who enters from then on.
* **Changing an email** a step points at changes what everybody still to reach that step receives.

<Note>
A campaign that is missing anything cannot be switched back on, even if it was active when you started editing. If you save a change that empties a step, the campaign stays off until you finish it.
</Note>

### Disabling a campaign

Turn the switch off on the overview, or use **Disable** from the list.

Disabling stops new partners entering, and holds everybody already in the sequence where they are. Nothing is lost: switch the campaign back on and each partner resumes from the step they were on.

Note that waits are measured against the clock, not against time spent running. If a partner was waiting three days and you leave the campaign off for a week, that wait has already elapsed by the time you switch it back on, and their next step runs straight away.

This makes disabling the safe way to pause something that is behaving unexpectedly. You do not need to delete a campaign to stop it.

### Deleting a campaign

**Delete** is in the **Actions** menu on the overview, and in the row menu on the list. Partnero tells you how many partners are part way through before you confirm.

Deleting is permanent. Partners currently in the sequence stop receiving its emails and do not finish it, and the campaign's history goes with it. If you only want it to stop, disable it instead.

### Troubleshooting

**The campaign will not switch on.** Something in it is unfinished. Partnero lists each missing piece by step number, including steps inside branches, named like *Step 5 / Yes / step 1*.

**Nobody is entering.** Check the campaign is Active, and check the trigger. Event triggers only enrol partners from the moment the campaign went live, so a *Partner joins program* campaign only picks up partners who join from now on. The three day-based triggers are swept hourly, so allow an hour before concluding nothing happened.

**Everybody entered at once.** Expected for **Partner inactive for X days** and **Partner hasn't referred in X days**. These match everybody currently past the threshold on the first sweep after switching on, not just partners who cross it later.

**The emails arrive from the wrong name or address.** Campaigns use your program's sending setup, not settings of their own. Change the sender name, sender address, reply-to address or branding under **Emails** in **Partner portal** — see [Email settings](/knowledge-base/program-emails/email-settings). The change applies to everything the program sends, including campaigns already running.

**No emails are going out at all.** Check your email settings first, under **Emails** in **Partner portal**. If the sending setup is incomplete or your sending domain is not verified, nothing the program sends will arrive, campaigns included. The step table will show the sends as having run, because the campaign handed them over successfully.

**Emails are arriving later than the sequence says.** Partners can receive only a limited number of campaign emails in a rolling 24 hours — one per day by default, adjustable in your program's email settings. Emails over the cap are deferred, not dropped, so a sequence with several sends close together stretches out.

**Partners are leaving before the end.** Check the exit conditions, which are tested before every step, and check for a condition step with an empty **No** lane — partners who do not match that condition leave the campaign at that point.

**A step shows skipped.** The email it points at may have been deleted, or the partners reaching it may have no email address. Recent activity records the reason.
