# Coupons and promotion codes explained

### What are coupons?

Coupon marketing is a strategy that uses discounts and other incentives to encourage consumers to purchase. Digital coupons can be redeemed online or in-store, typically offering a percentage discount, free shipping, or other incentives. A coupon is usually a generic code (for example, THANKYOU20) that can be used by anyone and is not linked to a specific affiliate.

### What are promotion codes?

Promotion codes are alphanumeric sequences that are assigned to and can be personalized to  **specific partners**. Promotion codes offer various discounts or incentives. On Partnero, promotion codes are created under specific coupons. Each coupon can have multiple promotion codes associated with it.

### How does coupon tracking work on Partnero?

Integration is required for us to track coupons and promotion codes. The following options are available:
