A percentage commission is calculated on the transaction amount that Partnero records for a sale. Which amount that is depends on where the sale comes from. For the native integrations, Partnero takes it from the payment provider and, in most cases, leaves out tax and shipping. Fixed (static) commissions are not affected — the partner earns the same amount whatever the sale was worth.

Commission base by integration

Payment provider fees (for example Stripe’s processing fee) are never deducted.
The quickest way to confirm the amount is a test purchase: open the transaction in Partnero and compare its amount with the order or invoice in your store.

Stripe

  • Subscriptions and invoices use the invoice total after discounts and before tax, so any sales tax or VAT that Stripe collects is left out.
  • One-time purchases through Stripe Checkout or Payment Links use the order total minus tax and shipping. This works whether your prices include tax or not.
  • Charges created directly through the Stripe API (not through Checkout) don’t carry a tax or shipping breakdown, so the full amount charged is used. Send transactions through the API instead if you need a different amount.
  • Stripe Managed Payments (Stripe as merchant of record) is tracked the same way. Stripe still creates the invoices and charges in your account. Prices are shown in the customer’s local currency, so transactions may be recorded in that currency — see Handling sales in multiple currencies.
If you connected Stripe through the Stripe App, Partnero needs permission to read Checkout Sessions to leave out tax and shipping on one-time purchases. Without it, Partnero uses the full amount charged and shows a notification in your account.

Shopify

Partnero uses the order subtotal: the price of the products after discounts, without shipping, duties, taxes and tips.
If your store displays prices with tax included, Shopify’s subtotal includes that tax, so the commission does too.

WooCommerce

The WooCommerce plugin adds up the order’s line items after discounts and lets you choose the rest:
  • NET or GROSS — NET (the default) leaves tax out. GROSS adds the tax charged on the products.
  • Include shipping — off by default. When it’s on, the shipping cost is added (and shipping tax too, if GROSS is selected).
  • Excluded categories — products in these categories don’t count towards the amount at all.

Paddle Billing

Partnero uses the transaction subtotal after discounts, before shipping, duties and taxes.

Chargebee

Partnero uses the amount of the payment as Chargebee reports it, which includes any tax you charge.

API and JavaScript

Partnero calculates the commission on the amount you send. Send the amount you want partners to earn on — for example, the order total without tax and shipping. See Create a transaction.

Discounts

The amount used is always the price after the customer’s discount. A 15% commission on a $100 order with a $20 coupon is 15% of $80. If you also want partners to earn a lower commission rate when a discount code is used, see Adjust affiliate commission when a discount code is used. To pay commission only on some products, use product-based commissions.

Refunds

When a refunded payment reaches Partnero, what happens to the commission depends on how far along it is. Commissions that were already paid have to be settled with the partner yourself. To avoid this, set a commission review period at least as long as your refund window.

Partial refunds

For partial refunds that aren’t applied automatically, you can decline the commission while it’s still in review (see Manage commissions from the partner profile), or use the API to delete the transaction and create a new one with the remaining amount.
